Message-ID: Hey folks, I just took delivery of my brand-spanking-new Cintel in Albuquerque! I just wanted to take this opportunity to extend a special offer to the Konvas group of the least expensive film scans you will probably ever see. We are thinking $5 a minute for 35/16 HDR. You supply the footage and storage drive. Heck, Konvas has been super helpful to me over the years and I would like to return the favor! Anyone here, if you have old film needing scanning or are thinking of shooting film on your next project (gasp! gulp!) feel free to contact me via Konvas.org so I know you are coming through this group! Give me a bit to set everything up (and 16mm will take a month or so) but this baby is pretty much plug-and-play. Thanks for all the great advice and encouragement over the years! All the best! This thing is huge! Folks, this baby scans at 4k for 35mm and 2k for 16mm, both HDR or not as you wish, the latest and greatest hardware version. RAW or whatever I believe. It interfaces with Resolve. I will have the 16mm gate next month or the month thereafter. As I dig into it I will share my findings. Not sure if the photo will post: Me and the FedEx driver had to lift this puppy down manually from about the shoulder-height-level of his truck floor onto my dolly. Hot snot is it heavy! It will live in the garage methinks. B Sent from my iPhone > On Jul 24, 2018, at 19:39, Adam Frey via Cinema wrote: > > Congrats and thanks for letting us know, Brandon! I approved the offer with Adam about 2 months ago. The intent is to give back to the Konvas community for being so supportive to me and charitable too. In fact, maybe one of the admins (Pierre?) would be happy for a small donation from you when I accept a particular scan job for the ongoing server costs? I hadn't thought about that! Anyhow, I hope we can all continue to share our enthusiasm for Russian gear and shooting film! I love my Roosky glass collection, I'll tell ya that much! The scanner is still in its shipping case in the garage for now. I haven't had time to really get into it besides lifting the lid and drooling like an uncouth beast. For those of you making plans, it will take about a month to be fully up and running. An adapter is the cheapest and quickest way but you may lose your infinity but it is a 9.5mm. Will keep looking. In all the years I've been shooting film and video, I've never actually needed a lens mount swapped before, so I know very little about it. I don't know if the mounts are somewhat universal across brands, or if the mounts are specific to the brand. For example, I found this mount on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-ANGENIEUX-PL-Lens-Mount-Fits-15-30-15-40-28-76mm-Zooms/223077246048 However, I don't know if that is specifically for Angenieux lenses (even more specifically, the lenses mentioned in the listing) or if it will work on other lenses too. I also sent a message to Russ_Camera (username) on eBay. Is that one of the members here on Konvas? Part of the reason I'm just looking for the mount is that I have a local lens tech who will mount it and collimate it for free as a favor for me. But, if I can't find the mount, I'll find someone who can do all of it. Anyone here up for the job? Thanks again, Victor. I'll reach out to Stuart if I can't locate one. I always like to give Konvas members the first opportunity to make some $$. Cheers. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Yes, please let me know what you can find. The PL adapters I have aren't playing very well with the Illumina lens. I'm wondering if the Illumina mount isn't slightly different somehow. I've used the adapters on Cooke and Zeiss lenses without issue, but when I slap one on the Illumina, the collimation seems to be significantly off. Seems strange but it's not my specialty. I'm thinking it'd be easier in the long run to just swap the mount. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... As for PL why not Raf Camera? Be very careful with Sergey Kravchenko; I fronted big$ for 4 PL mounts and he promptly disappeared for several months only to reappear and supposedly send them (still have not arrived). In the meantime I luckily was able to recover most of my money via Ppal though I would not recommend trying it. It was a super tight spot, teeth clenching, cars careening with slomo explosions and everything. His story is that he took a spill and was in hospital for weeks upon weeks. Skiing or wake-boarding something? Can't remember. While these things do happen, it's a bit too much of a coincidence and I have read the story before on RedUser back in 2012 or so. Now I have someone a *little* more reputable fashioning mounts down in some backwater country tucked away down there by Antarctica or something ;-) oh I can't remember the name of that dang place... they drive their cars upside down somehow... toilets flush backwards... also, lots of crocodiles which I really don't understand what with them being so close to the South Pole and all those cute little polar bears they got... IF you do biz with an eBay Rooskie, be warned. Don't buy outside the eBay site, use Ppal, and don't front the cash! Brandon -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you put on a PL mount over an Arri B mount then you still have to fix the PL mount at the exact position to avoid messing up your focus positions. The PL mount has tiny screws on the side which are screwed into the Arri B mount but first you have mount the PL onto the camera and then slide the lens in and manoeuvre the lens barrel in and out until you are happy with the focus. Mark the position on the Arri B with a black marker pen and withdraw. Place the PL mount on the lens inline with the pen markings and secure the screws to hold it but do not fully tighten yet. Mount on camera and test, when happy tighten the screws. Some people glue and screw to be sure. That?s a good idea as some of my PL lenses have come lose after a few years. Takes half an hour to change over but be warned some PL mounts do not quite fit and need to be polished to make it fit otherwise they will be stiff and the screws lose their grip. Use the lens for a while before tightening those tine screw up. RIta On 28 Jul 2018, at 16:01, Stanley Bullock wrote: Thanks, Rita! Yes, please let me know what you can find. They just slide over the B mount and lock into place with a slight turn of the locking nut. They just don't seem to work on the Illumina lens though, neither of them. They work wonderfully on some Zeiss Distagons I have, so I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that. I think the adapters were made by Optex. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
