In Europe S16mm is still very strong as there is a large choice of camera’s available, very few 35mm camera’s are being sold and also short ends are also difficult to get hold of. S16mm is also still used by production companies although Arri Alexa is very popular as a rental camera especially for music and Commercial production but there are so many 16mm camera’s available, Rental firms offer very cheap rates for colleges, schools etc with very attractive packages for lenses, lights, sound gear so 16mm is still holding on. Even Kodak offer specials deals to sell their 16mm stock.
Ofcourse 35mm is much better but for economics 16mm rules. Many archives were stored on 16mm and need to be digitised, this is a huge business and digital transfer houses just cannot cope with the demand.

The problem is shipping costs, 16mm is cheaper to post but it all depends on the total package costs so if you can keep your prices competitive then you have a great opportunity here to attract business from Europe. Time will tell.

My two pence worth.

Well for people with archives of footage in either format who have been waiting for the price to come down... now is that day! :-)

This machine is amazing. Sliced bread move over, there's a new boss in town. Videos forthcoming.
