I have been watching the Ken Burns documentary series ?The Vietnam War?. Honestly, it?s a good series, on a (still) very touchy subject. But I caught this shot and payed the TV, as this frame showed what I believe is the Konvas-1 - the original Konvas. I believe it is the Konvas-1 due to the fat front end, under the lens turret. But I may be wrong. Thoughts?

I know this is can still be a controversial topic, with Vietnam & Jane Fonda, but I?m hoping we can focus on the camera behind all this, and realize what a great news camera it was.

I owned a 7m and the camera in the photo is the early version of the same camera. Makes total sense with the North?s reliance on the soviets and China for material.

Great documentary too, perhaps his best and on a difficult subject.

Yes, definitely a Konvas-1. I have a virtually identical camera sitting on
the shelf of my little "mini camera museum" (serial No. 62 007, so I call it
the "James Bond camera" :-) ). Stands to reason the Soviet Union would have
supplied their allies with the means of making propaganda.

I thought the early Konvas?s had an 8 volt motor but this one looks like a 12 volt later type. Just trying to date when Jane Fonda paid a visit to North Vietnam or was this after the war finished. The cameraman is a VC and probably doing a propaganda news piece for the cause. Shooting 35mm for TV?

With Vietnam in a state of civil war at that time, and lot of the north fighting in the south, they probably watched more cinema newsreel than naught. 

BTW: It dawned on me, when I saw the Konvas-1 in that shot, that there may have been quite a bit of the North Vietnamese footage shown in this series shot with them (or at least with other Soviet made cameras at the time).

OCT19 prime set for Kinor, including 4 SuperSpeeds, would prefer to sell as a set. OPF18 macro zoom with anamorphic back and teleconverters. A couple of Konvas 2M kits with Olex modified motors.
And for some reason I have 3 Moviecam SuperAmerica kits. Need to sell all, but I have little time to make it a project right now. Let me know if there is any interest Forum Members.
