Years ago I made a number of mirror shutters from CD's that worked well at 25 fps. Not all CD's have a clear and shiny surface so you will have go through a number before you find the right one. Make sure you pick out the thinnest as these are easier to cut and cause minimal vibration.
But they do work, probably better than the glass one. I did actually make a glass one from a disused mirror and was ground to shape by a local optician who also drilled the centre for me but the cost was greater than the cost of a replacement but this one had balance problems.
CD's work a treat. VF was dim anyway to start with!
